Position Summary

Eastern Mechanical Contractors is looking for an experienced Commercial HVAC Refrigerant Pipe Installer to join our HVAC installation team.

This position is focused primarily on installing refrigerant piping systems for commercial HVAC equipment, including VRF/VRV systems, split systems, heat pumps, rooftop equipment, and other DX systems.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in clean, professional installations, understands proper refrigeration piping practices, and can work effectively with foremen and project teams to complete projects safely, correctly, and on schedule.

Responsibilities
Install commercial HVAC refrigerant piping systems.
Install copper refrigeration piping for VRF/VRV, heat pump, split-system and DX equipment.
Read mechanical drawings, equipment schedules and manufacturer piping diagrams.
Measure, cut, fit and braze copper refrigeration piping.
Properly nitrogen-purge piping while brazing.
Install branch selector boxes, headers, Y-branches and manufacturer-specific fittings.
Follow manufacturer requirements for pipe sizing, equivalent lengths, vertical lifts and allowable system lengths.
Install pipe supports, hangers and sleeves.
Coordinate piping routes with ductwork, plumbing, electrical and other trades.
Perform pressure testing with nitrogen.
Assist with evacuation and dehydration of refrigeration systems.
Assist with refrigerant charging and system startup when required.
Maintain clean and properly capped/sealed refrigeration piping during construction.
Protect systems from moisture, dirt and contamination.
Identify field conflicts and communicate them to the Foreman or Project Manager.
Maintain company tools and equipment.
Follow EMC safety policies and jobsite requirements.
Maintain a clean, professional work area.
Complete work efficiently while maintaining EMC quality standards.
Qualifications
Commercial HVAC/refrigeration piping experience preferred.
Strong copper brazing skills required.
Experience with VRF/VRV systems strongly preferred.
Understanding of proper nitrogen purging, pressure testing and evacuation procedures.
Ability to read mechanical drawings and refrigeration piping diagrams.
Knowledge of commercial HVAC installation practices.
Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
Valid driver’s license.
Reliable transportation.
Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment associated with commercial HVAC installation.
Must be dependable, professional and safety-conscious.
EPA certification preferred.
OSHA 10 preferred.
Manufacturer VRF training/certifications are a plus.

What We’re Looking For

We want someone who can install refrigeration piping correctly the first time. Clean piping, proper brazing, nitrogen purging, proper supports, pressure testing and attention to manufacturer requirements are extremely important.

This is a good opportunity for an experienced HVAC installer who wants to work on larger commercial projects and continue developing skills with modern VRF, heat pump and commercial DX systems.
