Journeyman Plumber Job Summary
As a Journeyman Plumber, you will be installing pipes and appropriate fixtures to ensure adequate drainage. Ensuring that structures are in excellent working condition upon completion of each project. Additionally, locating leaks and patching them, as well as repairing blockages and corrosions that are impacting the quality of the client’s system. You will also be asked to repair and install new fixtures, pipe fittings, and pipes, among other things.

Journeyman Plumber Duties and Responsibilities
Use your specialized knowledge and training to repair and maintain plumbing and drainage systems
Install new pipes and fixtures
General mechanical ability, which includes skills in the use of electrical test equipment, small hand and power tools, mechanical equipment, and materials applicable to the plumbing trade
Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics is required
Ability to locate underground piping and document piping location on blueprints is required.
Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required
Completes assigned projects with quality workmanship by using hand or power tools (such as sewer auger or vacuum plunger, acetylene torch, soldering and welding tools, pipe threaders and cutters, gas leak detector, sewer camera, pipe locator, and appropriate chemicals) to install, alter, or rebuild high-pressure steam, water, and gas lines, valves, traps, drains, basins, faucets, electronic flush valves, and faucets, lavatories, sinks, hydrants, and other plumbing fixtures and equipment, cutting and joining pipes (both threaded and fusion welded), and recommending the use of additional departmental personnel or contract personnel (as appropriate) to meet assigned completion targets
Repairs or replaces damaged plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers, bathtubs, water heaters, electronic flush valves, and faucets, and drinking fountains, or connects them to outlet and inlet pipes by making adjustments in pumps, regulators, and associated piping, threading, bending, or fusion welding pipe either by hand or by use of power equipment, screwing, bolting or fitting gaskets, couplings, traps and valves, and soldering, lead wiping, and/or acetylene cutting and welding connections to seal joints where necessary
Provides means of access to route pipe(s) through walls, floors, and other structures as may be required by dismantling or cutting through structural and other physical barriers in order to gain access for repairs or for new installations.
Journeyman Plumber Requirements and Qualifications
Completion of a plumbing apprenticeship or another type of formal plumbing training
Ability to use a wide variety of plumbing tools and techniques
All state and federal-mandated licenses required to practice
Completion of a plumbing vocational/technical school or a recognized apprenticeship program in the plumbing trade is preferred
Documented journeyman status is required
A working knowledge of building and plumbing codes is required
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
Prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping and reaching on a daily basis
Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically-powered tools and plumbing equipment
